The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has taken action against Voopoo International Inc. after receiving complaints about the promotion of Voopoo products in social media posts on the TikTok platform. The regulator noted three separate incidents and reported that Voopoo failed to respond to the complaints.
The first complaint involved a video from the account of Chantel Sturge (@chantelsturge1), where two boxes containing Voopoo vape were opened, accompanied by on-screen text highlighting features. The second complaint concerned a video from the account of Charlie Morrison (@tappyboi), showcasing the use of the Voopoo product throughout a day, with on-screen text promoting a competition. The final complaint was about a video from the account of Lorenx (@lorenhx), where the individual recommended the Voopoo product and mentioned an ongoing competition.
While Voopoo did not respond, Chantel Sturge apologized, stating she was unaware of the restrictions on promoting e-cigarettes on TikTok and subsequently deleted the post. The ASA expressed concern over Voopoo International’s lack of response and reminded them of their responsibility to promptly respond to inquiries in the future.
The ASA has instructed that the ads in question must not appear again in the complained-about form.
