Why Isn’t My Vape Making Smoke of Firing?

Even if you know a lot about vaping, sometimes your new device might not work as expected. Your vape might stop making smoke, or it might not work at all after you fill it. Since vapes have different parts that you can change and lots of menu choices, problems can happen. But don’t worry, there are ways to fix them!

Here are some common issues that vapers face with their devices and how to fix them.

Burnt Flavor

In general, when you are vaping and begin to get a burnt flavor pushing its way up through your chosen e-liquid, there are a few simple solutions.

The burnt taste is created when your atomizer is not getting enough e-liquid any longer. The most obvious solution is to check your tank and make sure it is adequately filled.

Next, you may need to look at your coil or clearomizer unit. As you vape, small amounts of e-liquid can get gummed up on the coil. If this goes on long enough, the coil may stop getting clean e-liquid altogether and just start burning the old debris.

If your coil is discolored or dirty you should replace it. It is also worth noting that your e-liquid takes a few minutes to soak up into your wick. If you have just refilled your tank, let your device sit for a couple minutes before using it or you may get a dry hit.

No Smoke

If your vape isn’t working after a refill and there is no smoke,, there are two common problems. First of all, the battery may need to be charged and turned on. Depending on the style of device you are using, you may need to press the firing button five times consecutively to turn the device on.

If you have turned the device on, check for an orange or red light indicating that the battery is low. If so, place it on the charger or replace the old batteries with a fresh set.

Next, the firing pin may be keeping you from getting a solid electrical current to your coils. If you remove your clearomizer from the top of your device, look inside the connector on the device to see the firing pin in the center.

This pin is designed to move up and down to connect with your clearomizer. If it has been pushed too far down into the connector, it may not be making a connection. Use a tiny screwdriver to gently wiggle it loose until it springs back up.

Not Enough Vapor

Not getting enough vapor is a slightly different problem than having no vapor at all. While low vapor production can be associated with a low battery charge, more often than not it has something to do with your e-liquid.

Check your tank to make sure you have enough e-liquid. If your tank is completely full but you still have weak vapor, it is possible that your atomizer or coil has been flooded. If this happens, simply take your atomizer apart and clean it with a paper towel or gently blow through it to get the excess liquid out.

It is also possible that if your tank was overfilled, liquid may have leaked out to your firing pin and connector. Carefully clean these with a bit of paper towel or a cotton swab as well to ensure a solid connection.

If you are still having vape problems, you may simply be using the wrong device or e-liquid for your preferences. The PG/VG ratio of your liquid can greatly affect the way the vapor fills your mouth and lungs. Higher VG liquids tend to produce more vapor.

If you are using a low-powered device or e-cigarette, you may need to upgrade to something bigger. Most cig-a-like devices do not come with variable settings or even publish their power ratings. Upgrading to a personal vaporizer can help you get the power you need to produce more vapor.

Popping and Gurgling

If you’ve never used a vaporizer device before, you may think that your vaporizer isn’t working right due to strange sounds coming from inside. The vaporizer works by heating the coils which then cause the e-liquid to boil. If you are hearing a small amount of popping and fizzing, it may just be the coils doing their job. However, if you start noticing large popping sounds and gurgling you should begin by checking your tank for overfilling.

You also need to check your atomizer and ensure that it is seated correctly on your device. Look for any signs of rubber o-rings or grommets that are improperly seated as they can allow air bubbles into the system as you vape. Lastly, check your coil for condition. If you have been using the same coil for too long, it may need to be replaced.

As you get more familiar with how vaping works, and understand the common features among all personal vaporizers, troubleshooting your vape will get easier. Use this guide to solve some of the most frequent problems that new vapers have and get back to enjoying your vape!
